HUB TRAINING ATTENDED BY 80 PLUS TEACHERS
The BEL facilitators Ms. Shilpa Potnis and Ms. Mansi Mehta conducted a two days HUB TRAINING for 80 plus teachers from 5 BEL Preschool centres on Multiple Intelligences, Emotional Intelligences and Assessments in Preschools. The training was hosted by Open Minds, Hyderabad in its school located at Kollur on 5th and 6th of June, 2017.
Day 1 Modules : ‘Multiple Intelligences’ and ‘EI/EQ in the Learning Environment’
The first day sequence flow of the topics was ‘8 Multiple Intelligences’ shared with examples, ‘Rapid fire round’ with questions related to MI recognition, ‘Teacher Talent Show’ and a game with teachers who were divided into four groups (new born, infants, toddlers, pre-schoolers) to inform ‘level of difficulty and approach is different for different age groups’ with experiential learning. It also stated that there are 100 different ways for children to learn and understand (‘100 languages of children - A poem’). It was informed that new curriculum-‘Soul Science’ is going to be included with the regular curriculum. A goal was set to centre heads’ and academic coordinators’ to make teachers identify the learning style of each child in their respective classes by the end of June. A topic ‘EI/EQ (Emotional Intelligence/Emotional Quotient) in the learning environment’ was presented by Ms. Mansi. Four basic components of EI were discussed.
Day 2 Module : ‘Assessments’
The focus of the module was to enable teachers understand about the different assessments in the preschool which covered all the six developmental domains. It included the guidance for teachers as when to observe a child and what needs to be documented. Many different ways of observing a child by the teacher were shared. Writing anecdotes (words and phrases to use and to avoid) with examples were shared. The practical ways to document observations (sticky notes, clipboards with child’s label, file folders with index cards/sticky notes, forms to list with all the names of children, Quick check recording sheet, suggestions for building an assessment portfolio with 5-7 observations that address all the 6 domains.
An assessment portfolio contents like things that can be saved in a portfolio, shining moments, education plan goals by special educator, teachers prior preparations for the PTC and OH were discussed. Points to be discussed while communicating with the families, the formats of summarizing the child’s progress were discussed. The second day ended with lots of information, suggestions and tips that helps the teachers in observing each child and record the factual observations and linking them to the early leaning standards and curriculum goals.
Last but not the least, the BEL team gave the seeds of a few fruits and vegetables and requested to grow the kitchen garden as it inculcates and develops naturalistic learning of a child. Each GT centre was asked to commit to an eco-friendly act and implement the same as the observance of the World Environment day.
Teachers’ feedback about the workshop concluded that the training session was a fruitful one as it resolved many queries from their inquisitive minds.Show less

Fistful of Grains
Globe Tot'ers - A Birla Preschool, Nepeansea Road and Birla Institute of Teacher Training in association with Birla Edutech Limited organised Fistful of Grains, an event for its preschoolers, teaching and non teaching staff. The event aims at instilling values of sharing, caring, and prevention of food wastage among the students. The total grains collected shall be then donated by Birla Edutech Limited to an orphanage as a noble service to the society.
